Subject: Four Month Update
On May 17th Anna went in for her four month check-up. She was measured at 25.5 inches (90th percentile for her age) and 20 pounds, three ounces
(98th percentile). Little Anna, at only four months, seems to be an overachiever
- already at the top of her "class." We think that Anna has hit her apex, however, as she appears to be thinning out even over
the last two weeks.
We continue to enjoy watching Anna develop. She has gone from sucking on her fist to sucking on whatever she can grasp. She is constantly
reaching for things, and anything in reach goes into the mouth. In addition, we've
found that, once your finger is in her mouth, that rubbing her gums will make her coo in some wonderful ways. She appears to LOVE having her
gums rubbed, as she babbles non-stop when you do it. She is so cute!
Anna has also begun lifting her head. Now, that doesn't sound like much, but it's pretty much her way of telling us, "Pick me up, please."
We're pleased by her attempt to communicate, but alas, she doesn't always get picked up. Incidentally, she has moved into the
"hold-me-all-the-time" stage. At the same time, Mom is trying to educate her that Anna
can't have everything she wants, and that Mom can't hold her all the time.
Anna might be learning that Dad is a sucker and does everything she asks, subverting Mom's attempts to teach Anna patience.
I just came back from holding Anna during lunch, and she was in the best mood she has ever been in during one of my lunch breaks. When she
smiles and laughs and coos like that, you can't help but hold her. It's kinda tough to balance food and a baby, but it was worth it!!
This past weekend I had a chance to watch a friend's child's softball game. Watching the game made me long for the opportunity to play
catch with my daughter, among other games. How I wanted to throw the softball with my little girl! It takes a little willpower to appreciate that
my child's life isn't a VCR - I can't fast forward and I can't rewind. Lunch today was a wonderful opportunity to enjoy her present age.
Today's update has more pictures than the average person can stomach, but I had them around so I figured I'd send 'em. It used to be the
smiles that were the best, but these days it's those precious moments that you really want to capture. One of my favorites in this list is
"Singing" when she was literally singing to us. The "Play" pictures are also at the
top of my list.
