13 Weeks and Growing...

Subject: 13 Weeks and growing

Our baby recently passed the 3 month mark. The updates come less
often because she isn't changing as quickly as she used to, but goodness the girl is maturing. Every other day brings a new "innovation."   Shortly after our last update Anna started sucking on her hand. Not her  thumb or fingers, mind you, but the whole darn fist. She's now matured to the point where she can control her hand and enjoys sucking on it constantly. We had originally thought that she was teething because of excessive drooling, sucking and a runny nose but Grandma says that the teeth  are
just moving around.

After a few weeks of only being consoled by Mom, Anna now seems to know who Dad is - and she likes him! I am now able to pick her up and console her, and sometimes she'll even smile when she sees me. Such a precious event to have your daughter smile into your eyes. Dad, being the male that he is, loves to whoop her up in air, simulating a roller coaster.  Anna loves it and even laughs (though it sounds more like happy grunting).  Unfortunately, when Dad makes her laugh hard (like only he can) Anna gets the hiccups. Our Anna hates the hiccups and the only fix we've found
for them is breastfeeding. So, Dad throws Anna around, makes her laugh to the
point of hiccups, then he gives her over to Mom to fix. Mom's patience is being tried by this - she doesn't like this "passing the buck" parenting. "You break it, you fix it." One of these days, Dad is going to stop doing this - maybe when Anna is 45 pounds or so.

In one of the 13 week pictures Anna looking at her feet. We just had to capture the moment - this is the first instance of her using her fingers individually - and it was so cute!

By the way, Anna is now in number Four diapers. That girl is growing by leaps and bounds! Actually, she hasn't Grown yet, she just keeps getting pudgier. A friend of mine says that, when she hits a growth spurt, she'll probably go back down to Three diapers. (Yes, when you're a new parent, diaper sizes are important. It seems dumb to put it in here, but this is an important development to us newbies.)
